At the Spring 2013 One of a Kind Arts and Crafts Show, Thorpe Toys was honoured to be inducted into the One of a Kind Hall of Fame. The One of a Kind Arts and Crafts Show is the premier arts and crafts show in Canada where highly skilled artisans gather for 11 days to present their creations to the public. This exclusive, invite only event, which has been running since 1975, draws artisans from all over Canada and attracts up to 200,000 people. The One of a Kind Hall of Fame was created in 1999 to honour the quality, craftsmanship and outstanding achievements of exhibitors. Artisans must have been invited to attend the One of a Kind Show for at least 5 years in order to be considered for the Hall of Fame. At each Christmas and Spring Show, an artist who excels in their chosen medium, creating works that are exceptional both in their construction and in their level of creativity, are inducted into the Hall of Fame. At the short award ceremony, which took place at the Thorpe Toys booth, Thorpe Toys founders, Jerry and Rosemary Thorpe recollected that “We started making toys for our children and then for others then it grew and grew to the point where we were making toys full time. We never expected it would grow to this point. We are so honoured to be selected for such recognition.” Thorpe Toys is currently the only toy company represented in the Hall of Fame. Thorpe Toys is a Canadian toy company that has been providing an outlet for fun since 1975. Family-run, eco-friendly, unfinished wooden toys. Thorpe Toys has been attending the One of a Kind Show since December 1980. “We remember when the show was held at the Queen Elizabeth building on the CNE grounds. It’s grown a lot since that time. We’ve made friends with a lot of the artisans at the show and love to see the same faces of our customers coming back to our table to share their stories about their toys. One of our favourite memories was of a little boy who approached our table with a moist fistful of coins and told us that he had been saving up all year to buy more toys.”

The One of a Kind Craft show has come a long way since it was held in the Queen Elizabeth and Automotive buildings. It is much bigger these days and still manages to be an intimate experience with the crafters and artists.
We really enjoy this show. Not only is a great opportunity to interact with our fans and customers, but we also get to reconnect with our fellow artisans.
